Description The Department of Revenue (DOR) is currently hiring a Revenue Accounting Manager in the Business & Financial Services division (BFS), located in Tumwater, WA.
The Revenue Accounting Manager is responsible for the integrity of all revenue accounting transactions and ensuring the accounting systems and information comply with the Office of Financial Management (OFM) policies and procedures and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) required to support the department’s mission to “efficiently administer tax laws and public service programs with integrity.
” The Revenue Accounting Manager is directly responsible for ensuring all revenue accounting activities are conducted accurately and timely.
As such, this position oversees the accounting entries used to record over $40 billion in statewide revenue on an annual basis.
Actions taken in this position have a direct impact on the OFM’s ability to generate accurate statewide financial statements.
The state’s Economic Revenue Forecast Council and the State Legislature also rely on data generated by this position.
This position is also responsible for properly accounting for revenue passed through to local governments.
This position must ensure that fiscal year end close activities including financial disclosure forms are completed correctly.
The Revenue Accounting Manager interacts directly with the State Auditor’s Office to ensure the Department receives a clean audit and is the subject matter expert for the accounting of revenue collected by the Department as well as maintaining over $4 billion in state property tax levy balances by county.

Duties This position manages a staff of three fiscal analysts.
Perform complex analysis and review of transactions and balances to identify errors of miscalculations.
Analyze current accounting methodologies, monitor changes, and implement modifications and/or enhancements to ensure accurate information is provided to department executive management and external users.
Ensure the department’s tax systems are properly reporting information into the state’s accounting system.
Have thorough knowledge of all state and local taxes as well as the statutory regulations of each tax to ensure taxes are properly calculated for reporting in the state’s accounting system.
Lead the development and implementation of procedures for fiscal year end close, and statewide financial entries.
Coordinate with other divisions and state agencies to determine the proper implementation of legislative changes impacting tax revenue.
Build and maintain a working relationship with the 39 County Assessors to ensure proper reporting and transmitting of property tax to the state.
Work directly with the State Auditor’s Office during both financial and accountability audits.
Work with other divisions to address interdivisional issues associated with internal controls and work process documentation of the department’s tax revenues.
Ensure the total revenue processed through the department’s tax systems are properly reported into AFRS.
Qualifications Competitive candidates will possess: Bachelor’s degree with 18 quarter hours or 12 semester hours of college-level accounting courses and three (3) years of relevant professional accounting experience.
Additional professional experience may be substituted for education, year for year but not the accounting credit hours.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in a financial field, certification as a Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Financial Manager or Management Accountant can be substituted for one year of professional accounting experience.
