Description The Audit Division of the Washington State Department of Revenue (DOR) is excited to announce they are now hiring an Excise Tax Examiner 1 (ETE1) in Tumwater, WA.
Candidate screening will begin as early as February 29, 2024 and the hiring authority may exercise the option to make a hiring decision at any time after.

Duties As an Audit Excise Tax Examiner 1, this position is a first level examiner performing, moderately complex examinations and accounting functions in support of the proper identification, assessment, collection and distribution of Real Estate Excise taxes (REET) consistent with statutory and administrative requirements.
It also includes the processing of penalty waivers, refund requests, returned warrants, discovery leads and account set-up.
Some of the other duties are: Ensuring controlling interest affidavits are processed accurately.
Performing county balancing functions on a monthly basis.
Verifying filing information related to Controlling Interest ownership changes.
Educating and communicating with taxpayers on REET matters.
Updating account information as required in computer-based tax system.
Reviewing REET reports for tax discovery leads and affidavit discrepancies.
Testing ATLAS system updates and changes in the staging environment.
Work suspended payments and payment batches.
Work stale dated refunds and returned refund warrants.
Qualifications Two years as an Excise Tax Assistant, Tax Service Assistant, Tax Service Representative, Fiscal Technician, Tax Information Specialist or equivalent within the Department of Revenue, provided required accounting course work has been completed OR A bachelor's degree involving major study in business or public administration or closely allied field with a minimum of 12 semester (or 18 quarter) hours of accounting.
Note: Accounting, or auditing, Excise Tax Assistant or equivalent experience will substitute, year for year, for education providing required accounting course work has been completed.
