The OpportunityWSDOT is currently seeking a Transportation Planning Specialist 2 to serve as the Stormwater Features Inventory Team Lead in Tumwater, WA.
This position functions as one of the crew leads for the Stormwater Features Inventory (SFI) field crews and is responsible for statewide data collection for highway system assets that convey stormwater.
This specialized crew lead is responsible for leading, training, and reviewing field crew data collection for WSDOT’s municipal Separate Storm Sewer System state-wide.
This position helps meet the requirements of WSDOT’s NPDES Municipal Stormwater Permit and obligations under the Legislative Move Ahead Washington funding package.
What to ExpectAmong the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Transportation Planning Specialist 2 will: Serve as a SFI crew member and team lead for consultant crews which includes ensuring GPS data, photos, and notes collected by the field team.
Follow established protocols, meet quality standards and manage field crews time and progress to meet scheduled deadlines.
Digitize stormwater drainage features data for as-built plan sheets using GIS.
Compile stormwater feature data from support documentation such as Hydraulics reports.
Assist with data retrieval needed to fill stormwater features information requests.
Provide intern program support, when needed.
Research and evaluate potential Illicit Discharge Detection and Eliminations (IDDE).
Process local jurisdiction storm sewer interconnection data and submits to SFI Lead for incorporation into WSDOT’s feature inventory.
Compile and send information and/or materials to WSDOT staff outside of the program.
QualificationsTo be considered for this opportunity, the following is required: Two (2) or more year of professional experience with GPS location and attribute data collection.
Two (2) years of professional experience inventorying mapping stormwater conveyance systems in a highway setting.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: Experience implementing pre-activity safety plans for working safely in a highway setting.
Ability to understand and interpret engineering documents and plan sets.
Experience with Esri Field Maps and other data collection software.
Experience using ESRI GIS tools and applications.
Experience in developing a stormwater features inventory or other inventory projects using GIS applications.
Experience with ESRI workflow manager.
Ability to use and manage databases and spreadsheets to collect, analyze, and report data.
Knowledge and understanding of WSDOT’s NPDES Municipal Stormwater Permit.
Important Notes This recruitment may be used to fill additional positions.
This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options and is eligible for telework up to 50% of the time.
Field and office work is required.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
