Position Purpose The purpose of this position is to provide senior-level electronic maintenance and support services for the installation, maintenance, testing, research, evaluation, and construction of complex media, multi-media, computing, and electronic resources.
Nature and Scope This position reports to the Media Maintenance Supervisor.
The incumbent manages their time working independently and as a team member under the general direction of the Media Maintenance Supervisor.
Responsibilities for this position include the installation, maintenance, and repair of a wide variety of college-owned electronic and electro-mechanical equipment, including complex media, multi-media, and control systems.
Typical work includes evaluating equipment and systems condition and recommending repair, update, or replacement, troubleshooting to board or component level, and performing the actual repairs or modifications, including any testing, alignment, or adjustment necessary to restore the equipment to operation.
Responsibilities also include installing and modifying complex media equipment and systems to meet special requirements, assisting the supervisor in planning for major media installations, and monitoring media priorities and shop work assignments.
Other responsibilities include the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of computing and electronic communications systems, assisting or directing other technicians with complex installation or repair activities as needed, and providing technical assistance to college staff in researching, analyzing, and adapting to new and/or complex technologies.
The daily work assignments and activities require a high level of independent judgment, effective communication, and specialized electronic skills in analyzing and solving routine and non-routine problems, evaluating customer requirements, and participating as a member of various project teams across departments.
Essential Functions Under general direction, perform senior-level electronic technician complex maintenance, installation, and repair services, such as fault diagnostics, calibration, component replacement, preventative maintenance, cleaning, and adjustment for a broad range of digital and analog electronic equipment, including: Computers, printers, and related peripherals.
Video production and editing equipment, including cameras, switchers, routers, distribution systems, character and effects generators, and recorders.
Video monitoring and projection equipment.
Audio production and editing equipment, including mixers, digital and analog processors, and monitoring equipment.
Mixed-media playback and projection equipment.
Multi-media workstations, and mass storage devices.
Electronic test equipment.
Consult with equipment users, including faculty, staff, and students and participate as an effective member of various project teams in evaluating user needs, determining equipment configuration issues and operational problems, and researching new technologies.
Perform complex equipment and systems installation, modification, and integration across a broad variety of media, multi-media, communications, and computing technologies; design and fabricate specialized interfaces for multi-media systems such as integrating digital control systems to analog devices.
Perform mechanical and electrical repairs to a system, module, board, or component level; calibrate and/or test for proper and safe operation.
Research and specify required parts and supply from various sources, such as service manuals, web resources, industry and professional contacts, and other sources as applicable.
Ensure highest standards of quality and productivity in all maintenance and installation actions; observe proper shop and industry standards in areas, such as troubleshooting, soldering, cable dressing, mechanical and electronic repairs, and equipment safety.
Maintain an orderly, efficient, and safe work area, observe all safety requirements of the job and be aware of safety hazards for self and others, follow all department, college, and industry safety practices and guidelines to help ensure safety, and maintain current safety training requirements and certifications as relevant.
Maintain accurate records of time and materials expended and maintenance actions performed; develop and maintain logs of activities where appropriate.
Create, organize, and maintain effective instructional and end user documentation using Microsoft 365, Wikis, Visio, and web-based tools.
Document designs, modifications, and installations using Microsoft 365, Visio, or other formats appropriate for efficiently and effectively completing the task.
Assist in campus networking infrastructure installation and repair under coordination with Technology Operations.
Assist leadership in monitoring media equipment priorities and work assignments and directing other technicians in complex installation or repair activities as needed under the general direction of the supervisor.
Provide backup support and assistance for classroom support staff.
Perform related duties as directed.

Advanced ability to troubleshoot and repair complex equipment and systems at the system, module, board, and component level, as well as the software, firmware, and applications level as required.
Advanced knowledge of analog and digital electronic media and communications circuitry and systems, including theory, troubleshooting, and industry standards and practices.
Ability to apply independent judgment utilizing varying approaches and methods within the scope of routine and non-routine electronic maintenance and installation procedures and research projects.
Ability to interpret electronic drawings and analyze a variety of data pertaining to problems encountered in routine and non-routine electronic systems maintenance and installation procedures and systems development research.
Ability and initiative to become continually and rapidly familiar with changing and new technologies and to integrate existing and new resources to effectively meet maintenance support requirements.
Ability and initiative to participate in the development of campus electronic resources and infrastructure.
Proficiency in the use of electronic test equipment, such as analog and digital oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, logic and data analyzers, breakout boxes, terminal emulators, automated audio analyzers, distortion meters, cable testers, and computer diagnostics.
Current knowledge of and ability to apply Federal Communications Commission, Underwriters Laboratories, and National Electrical Code rules, regulations, and guidelines to ensure compliance with technical, legal and safety requirements.
Good verbal and written communications skills, as well as the ability to work collaboratively and as a member of various teams across different areas providing service to clients.
Ability to routinely move equipment weighing up to twenty-five pounds to a height of three feet and occasionally overhead.
Ability to work under various levels of physical exertion including a high level of lifting, bending, pulling, and functioning in restricted or confined areas or on step ladders.
Ability to safely use hand and power tools, such as drill presses, lathes, soldering irons, grinders, vertical mill, etc.
Ability to create, organize, and maintain effective instructional and end user documentation via Microsoft 365, Wikis, Visio, and web-based tools.
Minimum Qualifications Desired Qualifications Experience as a media maintenance technician, including installing, maintaining, testing, researching, evaluating, and constructing complex media, multi-media, computing, and electronic resources.
