The ideal candidate for this role will have a minimum of two (2) years of college course work as noted in the required field of study, two years of clerical or office administrative experience involving tax-related work, or two years of experience in the field of personal finance, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, collection of civil debts or other directly related field.
As our Benefit Technician within the Account Management Center (AMC), you will be responsible for answering any questions and inquiries for our internal/external customers.
This work is accomplished by communicating with customers by telephone and/or by written correspondence.
Additionally, this critical work contributes to and supports the agency mission by ensuring every Washington employer pays their fair share of UI tax which enables UI benefit claims to be paid timely and correctly.
You will provide up-to-date information to employers about their ESD account and answer basic questions relating to tax liability and reporting requirements.
Knowledge of the Washington State business community, reporting agents, legal representatives, out of state businesses, and other state/federal agencies will be instrumental in this capacity.
This position is primarily a telework position with occasional need to attend in office meetings or events.
NOTE: If selected, a telework kit will be provided and instructions on pick-up location and procedures will be given.
Duties In this role for the Account Management Center, you will serve as administrative support to Tax Specialists, Lead, and Supervisory staff.
Additionally, you will respond to basic inquiries relating to the Employment Security Act coverage and responsibility to file and report tax and wages correctly and in a timely manner.
Some of Your Duties: Answer employers’ basic questions by explaining relevant RCWs and WACs relating to tax liability and reporting requirements.
Assist employer in preparing quarterly tax reports, compute tax, interest and penalties, preparation, or adjustments to their agency reports, and in the use of electronic filing and payment methods.
Review employer accounts and conduct interviews to determine liability and status.

Qualifications Required Qualifications: An Associates degree OR: Two (2) years of experience within an office setting, in the field of personal finance, law enforcement, adjustment of claims, collection of civil debts or other directly related field.
Successful candidates will also have: Knowledge of fundamentals of customer service and person-to-person communication, Office practices and procedures, Business English and letter writing, Spelling and basic arithmetic.
And have the ability to: Develop interviewing skills, Learn to interpret and analyze data in accordance with established procedures, Learn agency services, Learn and understand the motivations for human behavior to work effectively with members of the public and co-workers.
