Title: Criminal Justice Instructor
New Market Skills Center is seeking a dynamic instructor for the Criminal Justice program.
The instructor will prepare and deliver a quality program in cooperation with local industry, leading to entry level employment opportunities or further education in related fields.
SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Criminal Justice Instructor position will be under the general direction of the Executive Director of New Market Skills Center.
Responsibilities include teaching within the classroom and laboratory settings to prepare students to apply technical knowledge and skills that are essential for the career field.
The school day includes two sessions, a morning and afternoon.
This program will work closely with related programs so that the students gain the competencies that will enable them to be successful in this program.
QUALIFICATIONS
Hold or be eligible to hold a valid Washington State Career & Technical Education teaching certificate
Minimum three years full-time (equivalent) relevant work experience
Demonstrated ability to teach to industry safety requirements
Strong communication skills are vital, as the instructor will serve as a liaison between the students, school, industry, and community
Instructor must demonstrate an ability to implement curriculum that engages and motivates students
Demonstrated ability to relate to and desire to work with high school students
Demonstrated skills in human relations
Demonstrated organizational skills
Interest in student leadership development (Career & Technical Education requirement)
Demonstrated professional growth through participation in-service and professional organizations
A philosophy that supports the mission, beliefs and outcomes of the New Market Skills Center
Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
Provide a safe learning environment while providing an industry based instructional program
Develop/update curriculum competencies, working with industry and program advisory committee
Maintain viable business/industry/labor contacts and assist in student placement
Collaboration with other programs housed at New Market
Work with related instructors in participating high schools and/or at the community college to maintain program articulation, a good working relationship, and a positive New Market image
Provide assistance in development of student leadership, an understanding of the free enterprise system, and interpersonal communications as an integral part of the curriculum
Work with counselors, students, and administrators to develop individual programs to meet specific student needs
Maintain individual student records and report progress to appropriate personnel
Assume student supervision responsibilities as assigned
Organize, manage, and appropriately maintain the instructional facility, equipment, and resources
Serve as a positive model to students
Perform other duties as required
Keep current professionally by taking related courses, maintain industry connections, and maintaining involvement in professional organizations
