The job of an Early Learning Substitute is done for the purpose/s of providing age-appropriate activities for children enrolled in the Sound to Harbor Early Learning program under the direction of a certificated employee; providing clerical support to teachers; and assisting in maintaining a clean and safe classroom environment for the students.
Duties
Assists Early Learning students (e.
g.
tying shoes, mittens, hats, coats, etc.
) for the purpose of providing for their needs.
Assists teachers in the supervision of students in various outdoor activities for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Assists the teacher with age-appropriate activities by working with individual or small groups of students (e.
g.
games, art, music, science, language, nutrition, etc.
) for the purpose of guiding and/or reinforcing learning concepts and by addressing student's needs.
Distributes instructional and/or play materials for the purpose of providing students with necessary items and assisting the teacher in the classroom.
Instructs students for the purpose of enforcing rules and regulations and providing positive discipline and guidance for students.
Maintains classroom equipment and work area for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and/or providing for a clean and safe learning environment.
Monitors children in various activities (e.
g.
lunch, snack time, rest periods, group or individual play, etc.
) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
Performs record keeping and clerical functions (e.
g.
copying, attendance, etc.
) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or providing necessary records/instructional materials.
Prepares written materials for the purpose of documenting activities, providing reliable information, and complying with district, state and federal requirements.
Promotes good habits for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes and encouraging student development.
Reports observations and incidents (e.
g.
discipline, accidents, inappropriate social behavior, etc.
) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate personnel.
Secures students and/or equipment (e.
g.
wheelchairs, seat belts, etc.
) for the purpose of ensuring the safety and welfare of students.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Job-related experience preferred
Supplemental Information
Must be able to pass criminal justice and DEL fingerprint/background checks
Must be able to provide proof of MMR clearance
Must be able to provide proof of TB Test results taken within the last year
Complete the WA State Sexual Misconduct Disclosure Release Form

Benefits
Sick Leave - Substitutes earn one (1) hour of sick leave for every Forty (40) hours worked in each district.
Medical - Substitutes that work 360 or more hours for one district in a school year may earn medical benefits.
Substitutes may need to pay a premium for their medical benefits.
Substitute placement is on an on-call, as-needed basis as dictated by the daily needs of our member districts.
