GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the NLRC Manager, the Language Teacher will teach community Elders, Adults, Youth and Administration classes in the Nisqually Language.
The Language Teacher will track progress to meet the individual needs of language students.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary responsibilities are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform.

The omission of a function does not preclude management from assigning duties not listed if such duties relate to the position.
Teach community, schools and families to read, write, type and speak the Nisqually language.
Substitutes for Nisqually Language classes when necessary, if time permits.
Establishes goals and objectives for courses and track student progress for retaining Nisqually Language.
Participate in Nisqually language classes.
Participate in the Nisqually language teacher training courses.
Assist in developing language program and curriculum objectives.
Assist with large group activities and classes for Nisqually language.
Assist with preparing materials for learning Nisqually language.
Prepare and provide language instruction designed to meet the needs of individual students, as well as whole groups.
This may include special needs senior citizens and youth.
Prepare reports and submit reports as required or requested
Attends or participates in required staff meetings and other activities deemed necessary.
Organize educational activities and effectively communicate with students ranging from infants to elders keeping in mind maturity and attention span levels of students.
Because of the Tribe's commitment to community service and the well being of its members, each employee may be expected to perform a wide range of office and field duties from time to time.
Such duties may or may not be related to their regular responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED; and a minimum of two years of exposure, study and understanding of the Southern Lushootseed language and culture.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Southern Lushootseed language culture.
Must demonstrate an ability to research Southern Lushootseed language and seek out cultural information.
Minimum 1 year experience of participating in Nisqually community events.
Ability to design and implement lesson plans for students having a wide range of ages, abilities and achievements.
Must have Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check.

This position does not supervise.
