74 Hourly Location Olympia Main Campus, WA Job Type On-Campus - Student Job Number SH-222-ST Division Instruction Department Learning Support Center(222) Opening Date 07/18/2023 DESCRIPTION QUESTIONS Our Opportunity South Puget Sound Community College (SPSCC) seeks highly motivated and qualified SPSCC students for the position of Student Tutor in Learning Support Services (LSS), which offers tutoring support in math, accounting, reading and writing, language, science, computer software and programming, and academic success skills.
This position supports student success by providing one-on-one and small group tutoring to help students increase their knowledge and confidence in academic content and develop strategies for college success.
Educational Benefits This position allows students to enhance their understanding of academic content, improve communication skills, learn office procedures and technologies, and work in a team environment.
Schedule Information Tutors are scheduled according to their availability and the needs and open hours of the tutoring centers.
Tutors typically work 4-12 hours/week’ What You'll Do Student tutors support students' academic success via peer tutoring in one-on-one or small group settings.
Student tutors also: Support students' academic success via peer tutoring in one-on-one or small group tutoring.
Provide excellent customer service to all visitors by welcoming them, listening to their needs, and directing them to college resources as needed Maintain accurate records in TutorTrac online software Participate in team meetings and training sessions throughout the year to develop best practices in college tutoring Promote Academic Success Programs through presenting at class visits, tabling at quarterly open houses, creating promotional materials, and/or other promotional activities Demonstrate multicultural competence (including an awareness and understanding of historically disadvantaged populations) and create an educational and work environment that affirms SPSCC's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Qualifications You Possess Minimum Qualifications: Meets eligibility requirements for student employment Completed college coursework in specific tutoring content area Commitment to an inclusive and equitable working/learning environment *For writing tutors only: faculty recommendation and successful completion of ENGL 200: Writing Tutor Training Preferred Qualifications: SPSCC GPA of 3.
0 or higher Faculty recommendation (see supplemental questions) Previous tutoring experience To Apply Top candidates will be notified directly of their invitation to interview for this position.
