As an Epidemiologist 2 under the supervision of the Evaluation Unit supervisor, you will play a pivotal role in providing program evaluation, epidemiologic assessment, surveillance, and analytic leadership oversight.
Your focus will be on supporting the Title V Children and Youth with Special Healthcare Needs (CYSHCN) Unit, the Early Hearing Detection, Diagnosis, and Intervention (EHDDI) program, and Essentials for Childhood (EFC) programming.
This role involves tasks such as designing and implementing evaluation frameworks, performing biostatistical analyses, developing data visualizations, and facilitating presentations of findings to program managers and staff.
Qualitative data collection and analysis and community engagement will factor heavily in to job duties for this position.
The Surveillance & Evaluation section (S&E) at the Washington Department of Health (DOH) is dedicated to providing strategic information that guides policy and programs to enhance the health of all people in Washington State.

Responsibilities include: Program Evaluation and Analysis: Collaborate with program staff to develop and implement evaluation frameworks.
Use qualitative and quantitative methods to assess impact and gather lessons learned.
Analyze health data using statistical methods and perform biostatistical analyses.
Present findings through various mediums and make recommendations.
Provide technical assistance and support for research projects.
Obtain necessary approvals from human subject review boards for investigations or research.
Daily contact with office-level managers and staff.
Frequent interaction with other state, federal, and national stakeholder organizations.
Research and Data Analysis: Prepare research summaries and public health data analysis.
Disseminate scientific and public health information.
Analyze data with a focus on health equity.
Support ad-hoc requests related to maternal and child or community health.
Health Data Interpretation: Analyze health status and health care data.
Propose and initiate epidemiological investigations.
Represent the agency on committees and workgroups.
Facilitate presentations of findings to program managers and staff.
Provide technical assistance and training to partners facilitate understanding of data and statistical reports.
The incumbent may be located anywhere within the State of Washington.
Telework (mobile work) is currently expected.
When approved, the incumbent will work with their supervisor to identify an appropriate work schedule and balance including telework and reporting to the Tumwater, WA duty station for work activities, as needed.

Required Qualifications Note: Experience defined below may have been gained through paid or unpaid activities.

Option 1: Bachelor's Degree in Epidemiology, Public Health, or a related Health Science field with a substantial focus on epidemiology and statistics courses, including 12 undergraduate quarter hours (or equivalent) in epidemiology and 12 undergraduate quarter hours (or equivalent) in statistics AND Five (5) years of experience in program evaluation or epidemiological research and analysis.
OR Option 2: Master’s Degree or higher in Epidemiology, Public Health, or Health Science field which includes 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 graduate quarter hours or equivalent in statistics AND Two (2) years of professional level work experience in program evaluation or epidemiological research and analysis.
Desired Qualifications A Doctoral degree in a health science field, with a Master's degree in epidemiology or a Master's degree in public health, including 12 graduate quarter hours (500 level or above) in epidemiology and 12 quarter hours in biostatistics.
Three years (3) of experience designing and executing program evaluation or epidemiological studies and using statistical programs (i.
e.
R, SAS, STATA, ArcGIS, nVIVO, etc.
) to perform data analysis in a public health agency.
Two years (2) experience advising public health programs how to use data and scientific information for planning and decision-making.
Demonstrated experience analyzing administrative data (e.
g.
vital records, Medicaid, hospitalization) and complex survey data (e.
g.
Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, National Survey of Children’s Health).
