The Opportunity WSDOT’s Public Transportation Division (PTD) is seeking a currently enrolled college student or recent graduate to fill an internship position in data analytics.
This intern will support PTD staff with small-scale data analysis projects and short-term research and process documentation projects associated with statewide public transportation programs.
Interns in PTD work closely with program managers to apply learning from the classroom to real-world projects that improve public transportation access in Washington.
From buses to vanpools to services for people who are transit dependent, public transit is essential for access to opportunities and vital resources.
For many, public transit is a primary connection to work, school, health care, groceries, and family.
For others, public transit is an affordable travel option that frees their hands from the steering wheel and keeps our air cleaner and traffic flowing.
This internship can be based anywhere in Washington, Idaho, and Oregon, and offer flexibility for up to 100% remote work with supervisor approval.
What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the Data Analyst Intern will: Identify and help prioritize research subjects for further analysis.
Review previous research and collect data necessary to complete the chosen research project(s).
Develop and refine a report structure to communicate findings.
Draft findings and write a detailed a report on the chosen subject(s).
Prepare data and findings for presentations in a variety of formats like slide decks, briefing papers, reports, standard works, process flow diagrams, technical memorandum, plans, infographics, and online interfaces.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: Enrolled in or a recent graduate of a bachelor's degree program in transportation planning, environmental planning, urban planning, regional planning or land use planning, engineering, data analytics, public administration, communications or related field at an accredited college or university.
Ability to research, evaluate and draw conclusions from data and information; support recommendations with facts and analysis; and interpret and apply rules, laws, policies, and procedures.
Ability to convey ideas and facts orally and in writing using language the audience will best understand.
Ability to develop positive, productive, respectful working relationships with stakeholders and co-workers.
Ability to use or learn to use a variety of technologies such as Microsoft Office, GIS software, etc.

Enrolled students may adjust working hours and may start part-time depending on school schedules with supervisor approval.

In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.
