Description About WSDOT Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is the steward of an integrated, multimodal transportation system that helps to ensure people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state.
In addition to building, maintaining, and operating the state highway system, WSDOT operates the largest ferry system in the nation, manages the world's longest floating bridge, and recently completed the world's widest tunneling project.
The Opportunity WSDOT is seeking a currently enrolled college student to fill a Support Technician 1 position.
Serving as a Technology Services Division (TSD) Customer Support Intern, this position will support the Headquarters TSD regional groups including Help Desk, Service Desk, and Workstation Support groups and their agency customers in various WSDOT business units.
The position will provide value to the HQ TSD group and its customers while gaining hands-on experience and exposure to WSDOT technologies, practices, and culture.
In this role, you will share a holistic perspective of WSDOT by providing enriching experiences through field visits, virtual discovery events and meaningful work with a variety of WSDOT TSD professionals and customers.
Our top candidate will possess enthusiasm for learning WSDOT specific IT concepts, skills and serving agency customers.
What to Expect Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, the TSD Customer Support Intern will: Assist in maintaining and resolving hardware and software problems by replacing components using specialized technical tools, and test equipment to diagnose and resolve faults.
Assist in maintaining incident and request status through WSDOT IT Service Management (ITSM) system.
Resolve routine security password issues for user accounts.
Install and reload software or reconfigure systems as required either via phone, physical visit, or remote access collaboration methods with the customer.
Assist Service Desk in providing Tier 1 support for workstations, printers, network, and software for WSDOT employees statewide.
Learn and use the most effective communication methods and tools (messaging, phone, email, etc.
) available to contact customers or receive incoming requests.
Document interactions and updates in detail within ITSM ticket logging system for easy reference to other TSD staff.
Assist in procurement of network client devices including workstations, laptops, tablets, mobile devices, monitors, docking stations, and peripherals including keyboards, mice, and other client devices or WDDOT network attached assets.
Assist in completion of projects, assignments, and tasks in a timely manner.
Qualifications To be considered for this opportunity, the following are required: At least 18 years of age and currently enrolled in a full time post-secondary IT-related academic program.
The ability to safely maneuver and manipulate objects up to 50 pounds in weight.
The ability to travel between WSDOT sites as necessary to support customers and provide meaningful work and interactions with WSDOT TSD and its customers.
Consideration for health and safety that align with WSDOT standards (i.
e.
Take Two).
Commitment to integrity and ethical conduct through reference or experience.
It is preferred that qualified candidates also have: Familiarity with information security standards.
Familiarity with project management concepts.

This internship opportunity is expected to last up to three (3) months.
In addition to base salary, employees may be entitled to other forms of compensation depending on the type, duties, or location of the position.

This position offers flexible/hybrid remote work options.
